22JAN08 Springettsbury Township 3rd Alarm Apartment Fire : In what ended up being a strange case of Deja Vu Springettsbury Township firefighters were summoned to the Suburban Park Apartments for a structure fire at around 0730. 911 reported multiple calls of a working fire with jumpers from the 3rd floor.

Firefighters arrived and found a fire with a strong hold on the third floor and attic space of the building. An interior attack was attempted but abandoned as interior conditions became too dangerous. 2nd and 3rd alarms were quickly struck and the fire was controlled by multiple elevated master streams.

The Deja Vu came into play when it was determined the fire had been started by a resident intent on killing himself. He lit the fire, waited for it to grow and then jumped from his third floor balcony. Of course he lived and was arrested by PD.

A very similar incident occured in the same complex less than one year ago. Hopefully other residents have realized now that this method is not effective and will not keep trying to off themselves in this manner.
